Burrowfolk Triplets

Burrowfolk Triplets

Mama Bun has sent her three little ones blackberry picking, and so the Burrowfolk triplets have come into being. Flossie, Fern, and Freddie each carry their own character and colour, yet together they tell one story: baskets filled for pie, and adventures along the hedgerows.

Hello, it’s Heather.

Sometimes the ideas for new Burrowfolk arrive quite suddenly. This one came to me while out walking in late summer, when the hedgerows were heavy with blackberries. I imagined a busy kitchen in the burrow, with Mama Bun rolling pastry for a pie, and her three children sent out to gather berries in their baskets. That picture lingered, and slowly the triplets began to take shape.

Flossie was the first to appear - gentle and careful, making sure every berry is gathered neatly and no one is left out. Fern followed, thoughtful and steady, with her violet dress and a quiet way of noticing the small things others might miss. Freddie came last, adventurous and full of energy, in his green dungarees, quick to find the best brambles (and quicker still to sneak a taste).

They feel like a little set, the three of them. Each with their own character, but tied together by Mama Bun’s sprig-patterned fabric - pink for Flossie, purple for Fern, and green for Freddie. Together they look just as I imagined that day: three rabbits sent off blackberry picking, returning with baskets full for pie.

I’ve set them here among real berries and moss so you can see the picture as I saw it. They’ll each find their own story in time, but for now they belong together, and I’m happy to introduce them at last.
